Chelsea: loft buildings between the galleries and Midtown

Galleries, townhouses and converted industrial lofts, with the High Line close by and NoMad a short walk away. What Chelsea is like as an office address, and the buildings Nomad offers on its northern blocks.

Nomad ResearchJuly 8, 2025 · 3 min read

Chelsea blends residential calm with urban energy. Its streets hold a dense gallery scene, boutique shops, elegant townhouses and converted industrial lofts, with the High Line and Chelsea Market close at hand and the garment and design districts next door.

For office tenants, the northern blocks are the draw: loft buildings with real character, strong transit and an easy walk to NoMad, Flatiron and Midtown. Nomad’s Chelsea buildings sit between West 26th and West 30th Streets.

What it’s like

The building stock changes block by block, from former warehouses to modern developments. Many floors are open, with high ceilings and non-traditional layouts. That suits creative work, but it also means two spaces of the same size can plan very differently, so layout, ceiling height, loading access and zoning are worth checking early.

In Chelsea’s loft buildings, the space you tour is rarely the space you move into.

Move-in-ready space takes more searching here than in newer districts, because older loft buildings often need customization. Plug-and-play offices, recently built spaces and furnished suites are the way to get Chelsea’s setting without a long build-out.

Who it suits

Creative agencies, media companies, architecture and design firms, technology startups, galleries and professional services. They come for the large floor plates, the high ceilings and the closeness to Midtown and the West Side.

Getting there

Chelsea has strong west-side transit connections, and its northern blocks sit close to the major commuting hubs. NoMad, Flatiron and Midtown are all within walking distance.
